My HOST module freezes everything within seconds of inserting it into a patch. toggling theUI button in reaper’s FX window wakes it up again, for just one mouseclick, and then it dies. In extreme cases it crashes rack and reaper together. This does not happen on my win11 vbox, but only on linux mint. Anybody seen anything like this? And fixed it?
Not to pry, but why not open another track in reaper and load the vst there? That is the very best vst host you have available.
Is the VST loaded into anything else besides Rack HOST? Just a clarification of possible interactions with “shared libraries” (.so, .dll, .dynlib). Is it just the one plugin VST or any VST?
The fact is, my HOST module is inoperative, and locks the FX as soon as I load it. This only happens on my linuxmint desktop. It does not happen on windows11.
1- start a freestanding rack 2- load three modules: MIDI-CV, HOST, and AUDIO2, and make the obvious connections 3- confirm the keyboard is active 4- connect the HOST module to any plugin available, e.g. VITAL 5- wait 1-2 seconds to watch rack crash and disappear from the desktop.
Oh, as for your questions: I plan to use rack modules to further process the plugin output. There are other ways to accomplish that, but they are awkward compared to what HOST is supposed to provide – and hasn’t yet, at least on linux. The success of this configuration on my win11 vbox, for postprocessing a plugin, makes me want to do it on linux too – and I can’t.
I’m not sure what else to suggest. I’m loading Linux VST3 (.so) in HOST. It occasionally uses a lot of CPU, and won’t run very heavy weight plugins (they won’t run in Carla either due to buffer under runs). The VST interface sometimes takes a few seconds to open when clicking the “eye”. It opens Linux JUCE made plugins (I tested it on a project I’m making myself by ProJucer template). I’m not using Rack as a plugin.
This situation probably won’t change if you don’t open a support ticket with VCV.
