General Question about VCV operations

I am just generally curious about a couple things,

Is VCV rack as a company basically just one person ex. Andrew?

I ask because many posts on the forums mention Andrew in one way or another either needing approval or waiting for a revision… Basically seems like an immense amount of work for an individual if that is the case so kudos to Andrew.

Another basic question is in regards to the concept of open source as used here. I am not a programmer or anything and have a basic idea of the various licensing concepts but for example when looking at the MI clones Audible Instruments it seems like there are multiple different versions / fixes that people have made, comments like “would need Andrews approval” and even from Andrew mentioning basically having too much on his plate to address at that moment. So if they are open source and someone has made a version or “fork” if that is the correct terminology what determines if they enter the library or have to be manually installed? I guess this question is relevant to all modules?

Not trying to stir any pots or anything I am really just kind of wondering how this whole things works. Love VCV and recently bought the Metamodule and wouldn’t have gotten into hardware without it.

Thank you.

There are always people in an open source project who must approve changes. These ppl are called commiters. like mozilla or linux. there are many more ppl in the world than there are commiters. does that answer your question?

Andrew is not alone. He has hired help for ui design, library maintenance, and support (at least), and has been known to hire on a temporary basis. He has also partnered with others for specific (usually paid) modules under the VCV brand. That said, he’s the guy in charge and has final say.

As for other specific modules, it depends on the license.

More details on specific policies for being in the library can be found in the VCV Rack Manual.
