edit: I’ve been incorrect: it’s not 100% VCV Rack. the patch is programmed and auto-generative, made 100% in VCV Rack 2 Pro Standalone, with most free modules and few premium ones. then I have mastered the track in REAPER: LAEA + LALA, a drop of reverb, a clean limter and automations only for the intro/outro (more or less)
Big thumbs up! To follow on with @Alphagem-O 's questions, if this is one patch in real time, is it auto-generative or performed? Either way is impressive.
@Alphagem-O@DaveVenom it has been planned and programmed, it’s autogenerative. one straight take, no cuts/edits. I have spent few hours on it in the past days, then I brought it back to life for the occasion; the most difficult part (IMHO) has been giving it the “rhythm” I wanted the listener to feel (I can say that it’s been really well fine-tuned). in this video it’s a little bit too fast (IMAO)…if performing it live (with controllers) the rhythm would be slower
@OldPluginGuy it’s made out of two identical blocks, where Elements and Iroi are the main characters. then we have triggers generators, gate randomizers and envelope followers to re-trig it when volume drops (more or less) then it’s mixed in the center of the screenshot:
Thank you very much for your explanations, the track is beautiful!
An explanation video would be nice, but might be time-consuming to produce and watch. Just leaving the patch for self-study here or at Patchstorage would be just as fine with me. Thanks again for a lovely patch!
Iroi is awesome for drones, I happened to have made a video on that very subject today. Just smash the randomise button until you get something you like! It’s not exactly nuanced, but great fun.
@VirtualModular yes it is. Elements is a king of evolving drones as well…combine them and something very magic can happen! In 2025 I tried Oneiroi at Superbooth but I was overwhelmed by stuff and did not realize the potential (tbh I’m not that much into salmplers/loopers/wavetables so I overlooked it a little bit). now I have Iroi in Rack and soon I hope I will have it in Eurorack as well.
Next time I will play a bit with this stuff it will be with a more static starting audio material - as I do live with Elements in eurorack or with iZotope RX standalone, which is another king for generating static drones
