It’s a cool sound I use a lot, and you might too.
It uses Confusing Simpler, in I hope a non-confusing manner.
The Bernoulli gate input comes from to the clock of your choice, I generally use a 1/16 note clock, but anything will do. You can use the triggers from a sequencer, and have stutters whose duration is tied to the rhythm being played.
I use a Vult Slap envelope after the sampler because it lets you trim how much of the repeats get through.
The beauty of Confusing Simpler is that it’s a double-buffered sampler. You record, and when you stop recording, it plays back the recording. If you hit record again it records to a second buffer, and when you stop recording, it plays back the new recording.
This allows for cool ways to inject chaos that’s more or less clock synced. One thing you can try is hook a button to the record input and trigger it by MIDI. You can quantize the recording by using a trigger buffer. You hook your button to the “Arm” input and an 1/8 note clock to the input.
That makes the looper an instrument you can play. And it can also literally be a looper. I’ve used that live a few times, and it’s really effective. You can record long loops, and loops of mismatched lengths, while playing live. If you go longer than 4 bars when you’re looping you won’t sound like Ed Sheeran.
