Computer Advice Needed

FWIW, I always build my desktop machines myself. I have a single over-riding qualification for any part that goes into the box: It has to be quiet. Thus, I have an Antec case, a nearly-silent CPU cooler, a fanless video card, and a quiet Seasonic PSU. My current box has regular hard disks - soon to be replaced with at least one SSD - but each drive is held in place with noise-reductive fasteners. All in all, a very peaceful machine. Wrt budget laptops: I recently inherited a Toshiba Satellite C75D, a quad-core machine (Intel) that’s running VCV Rack nicely enough. Obviously whatever machine you choose it has to run patches of whatever size you envision. I keep the load minimal on the laptop, I haven’t really pushed to find where it will break up, but I typically work with only a few heavy-duty components in my patches.

I use Remote Desktop a bunch to control my windows machine from a MacBook.
