Coming soon . . . A new Venom Oscillations complex VCO

The Venom Oscillations commercial plugin will soon have a new complex VCO to go along with Sofia’s Daughter. If you have followed my hardware emulation patching adventures, you may be able to guess what this module will be. If not, well . . . all will be revealed soon enough . . .

The reason I am making this announcement now is because time is running out for purchasing the entire Venom Oscillations plugin for only $15.

Once the new module is released, it will sell individually for $15, just like Sofia’s Daughter. Or you will be able to purchase the entire Venom Oscillations plugin with both Sofia’s Daughter and the new one for $25, a savings of $5.

But - existing owners of Sofia’s Daughter already own the complete Venom Oscillations plugin collection, so they will automatically get the new module for free!

So if you are interested in owning Sofia’s Daughter, but have been dragging your heels, then now is the time to act! Once the new module is released, you will no longer be able to get both for $15.

Clicked ‘buy’ before I finished reading the post. No regrets - great collection. Thanks for the heads up!

Well, thanks for the hint … just got your Oscillator Pack :grinning: … Have to say that the Venom collection is one of my favorites in VCV Rack!

Fantastic to hear - thanks!

Wow Sofia’s Daughter self patched creates very cool rythms/sounds. Especially combined with @AlliewayAudio Bumper this gets such a mad maschine!

Oh! That is some fun chaos!

I made a quick video of the 2nd version so others can see what mayhem you cooked up.

Link to the patch on Patchstorage is in the video description.

When I sent that last recording to a friend who has Xaoc Sofia hardware but never uses VCV, he replied that my recording didn’t seem to demonstrate what he considered to be the characteristic sounds of Sofia. He wondered if it was the nature of the software implementation or just my patching. That didn’t really surprise me considering I went into that first patch blind to find out what I could come up with, without reading the manual, watching any of the videos on the original hardware or this software version. Clearly it was my patching that didn’t take advantage of this wonderful module’s potential.

So I spent time listening to examples of the hardware and in deeper exploration in VCV. I was particuarly inspired to cut loose with it after watching Joey of Blush Response’s video making “&^%! Big Boy Sounds!” Fun and crazy sounds but ultimately I couldn’t tame my own patch into one that I wanted to record and share.

I won’t claim that this patch takes full advantages of this deep module, but it seems to capture more of the flavor of the hardware. For example, this patch isn’t polyphonic. I don’t have the hardware so it’s still a bit of a guess how close I got to the hardware sounds.

My first patch used the fantastic Ouros from CV Funk as a drone. In this patch I replaced it with Warp Core from Infrasonic Audio doing more than just droning, because I was able to get sounds I thought were more sympathetic to the patch, and because I have hardware Warp Core and just love it.

Thanks again Dave for bringing your take on it to VCV.

Cheers!

Nice! That is how I like to use this module - without any filter so the inherent sound is showcased.

Every time I bootup vcv or the Metamodule my set is at least 30% your collection, 30 mutable clones and 30 cv funk. Purchased sophias without finishing reading your post above as well, can’t wait to play with it and to hear what’s coming.

You’re spewing out great modules like no other! And building up an ever growing library of high quality components to explore all sorts of synthesis techniques

I bet Venom Slew, and especially its V/Oct control over the slew rate, is a byproduct of your work on Sophia’s Daughter? Since FOF synthesis requires the envelope on the impulse train to correspond with the cycle length and thus the frequency?

Now that you jumped on the FOF bandwagon…

Here’s a short intro into another FOF implemention, closer to the original Vocal/Formant synthesis concept: CHANT

Thanks! Yeah, I always enjoy interesting sounds, but when I can use a module and understand and manipulate how sounds are produced I like it even more.

Actually no. I implemented the Ripple Element damping envelopes as descending ramp oscillators in one shot mode that are triggered by the fundamental oscillator. The “frequency” (actually wavelength) of each damping envelope is proportional to the frequency of the fundamental. I developed the one shot code during development of VCO Lab.

I don’t remember what prompted me to develop SLEW. It was shortly after I developed the AD/ASR envelope generator. On the surface those two modules seem to be similar, but the underlying code is entirely different. I don’t typically use slew limiters very often. But the few times I had I remember wishing they had a V/Oct CV input. So naturally I added one to my module.

It is almost here. Spice Factory is scheduled to be released around 1 PM on Monday, Nov 17.

I guess the name Spice Factory doesn’t give much clue as to what it does . . .

Sounds like it factors spice!

Almost 2 weeks, arghhh!

Lol, it will be worth the wait, the Multimode Filter is wild!!

Tease! Bring it on…
