Can't connect to audio interface (Mac, Focusrite)

VCV Rack’s Audio module connects fine to my MacBook Pro speakers, but not to my audio interface. When I select it, the Audio module reverts to ‘No device.’ It’s a Focusrite 18i20.

I don’t have any problems playing system audio or using Ableton, Max, etc. Just with VCV Rack. If I select any pair of ins and outs, the same thing happens.

Any ideas, folks?

I had the same issue the other day but only once and it worked fine after restarting Rack. Before, I never had problems with that.

Might be worth giving your hardware / software version info to VCV Support and report the issue, if it’s not solved by a restart.

Thanks for replying! I’ve sent a message to VCV Support

On an older Mac I have a Focusrite 2i2. When I had it connected straight to the USB port of the Mac I had the problem that when the Mac had been to sleep, the interface would sleep as well and when waking up the Mac had forgotten about the interface and then it wouldn’t work in Rack either. As if it’s interface detection would run just before waking up the device. I solved the problem by instead connecting it to an external, powered USB hub. I don’t know if yours is USB powered or if this is relevant to your situation, but just a datapoint.

I had this issue when I updated to MacOS Sequoia. It was a Focusrite bug. I have a MacStudio and an 18i20 interface. Restating the interface after turning on your Mac fixes it. But they have a more permanent fix at
