Can't adjust FM depth in Bogaudio FM-OP

I’m running into a weird problem that seems like a bug. But FM-OP has been widely used for a long time so I’d think a bug like this would have already been surfaced, so I’m pretty mystified.

Here’s my very simple patch: FM-OP test.vcv (1.0 KB)

I’ve got two FM-OPs next to each other. The output of one goes into the FM input of the other. They’re set to different frequency ratios.

– With nothing plugged into the Depth input, I can adjust the FM depth using the Depth knob and hear the frequency modulation as expected.

– With a cable plugged into the Depth input, the Depth knob no longer has any effect and I don’t hear any frequency modulation no matter how much I adjust Depth. That seems undesirable to me, but maybe the cable input is supposed to override the Depth knob?

– If I plug an adjustable voltage source (e.g. an 8Vert) into the Depth input and send in some voltage, I still don’t hear any frequency modulation. That can’t be right.

Any ideas? Does the patch work as expected for others? Have I misunderstood something obvious?

Pretty much all Bogaudio modules with a parameter knob and CV input work the same.

If the CV input is not patched, then the knob controls the parameter directly.

If the CV input is patched then the knob attenuates the CV value. Your knob value is 0, so it is not letting any CV through. You just need to turn the knob value up and it will start working.

Oh that makes sense! Thanks!
