i got it working by removing every single thing from the plugins folder. then opening rack, and clicking library and then downloading just the few brands of modules i need. if i do library:update all, then it crashes when i reopen it. how might i figure out which is the bad plugin that causes it to crash?

Not a mac guy, just trying to help, could you delete the contents from inside the autosave folder inside the Rack2 folder, and restart Rack?

hi, thanks for writing, the problem still persists when i do that. however if i remove all the plugins, and then choose from library pull down menu to only download bogaudio, vcv, and a couple others, it works.

Maybe next time this happens post the log.txt file from inside the Rack2 folder, most of the time the last few lines will give some insight to what happened.

aha, i can now load everything except for VCV HOST, which causes the crash. i would like to use this module to run vst stuff though, as i had in the past. not sure why it would crash now. any suggestions? many thanks

no, first time opening the program in a while. i can now run it with all modules except VCV HOST, no idea why this would suddenly crash. i guess i can try to figure out which audio pluging is giving me trouble. i wonder if this would be written in the apple error report at the top of this thread?

it looks like it might be an Apple AU plugin called sound isolation.

i have no idea how to find that though, or any apple audio unit plugins! i can only see the audio units i have for izotope stuff. ive looked the library folder in my user folder, my hard drive, and the system folder… strange, anyone know where the standard apple audio units are located?

When installed, Audio Units plug-ins appear as individual components in the Library folders on your Mac: In the Finder choose Go > Go to Folder, enter “/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components” into the Go to Folder field, then click Go. You can also check the Library in your Home folder.

yes, i looked in 3 different library folders including the one you suggested. and inside each one i only see izotope stuff and some other brands, no apple… odd…

if i open audacity, and do “plugin manager” i can see these apple plugins, what is this file path listed next to it? i cant find “appl” or “vois” or “aufx” anywhere…

it warned me when i opened it, so i disabled it in audacity. i think its still enabled for any other program though. and i cant find this directory or any other apple au plugins, so weird! hopefully a mac guy sees this thread?

An AU plugin on an M1 machine will be in ARM64 format. VCV Rack and its plugins are in X64/Intell format. You cannot mix the two. Also, VCV Host does not even load AU plugins, only VST 2/3, so what you’re saying that you’re doing doesn’t quite make sense.

The crash is in rack::drm::Context::load() which implies it’s trying to load your license file for VCV Host. Perhaps that license file is corrupt?

What happens if you move aside the file Documents/Rack2/licenses/VCV-Host.vcvkey and try again? Ideally, Rack will start, and VCV Host will load, either with an an overlay saying you have no license file, or successfully because it downloads a new copy of the license.

It ought to download a new copy of the license automatically; if it doesn’t, perhaps you need to log in again within Rack.
