Hi all, I am using Stoermelder’s MIDI-CAT to map my patches to my Minilab and it is working great, BUT…
When I have an Arturia knob mapped to a VCV knob that is already set at a value, using either of the pickup modes I have to chase that value until the knob is ‘caught’ and then it can be manipulated. I thought that setting the Arturia knobs to relative settings rather than absolute settings would fix things but I’m afraid not. There are three relative settings in Arturia and relative 1 forces the VCV knob to a very narrow range centered at 50%, relative 2 flips the knob between 0 and 100% and relative 3 forces the VCV knob to a narrow range centered on around 25%. Does anyone have any experience with what I’m talking about and know of a fix? I can’t see to find a setting in MIDI-CAT to use relative encoding. Thanks!
Thanks, this has solved most of the problem, but it seems that MIDI-STEP does not respect being bypassed. I have several patches in a much larger patch and each is running it’s own instance of MIDI-STEP. Only one patch is enabled at a time and the rest are bypassed. They were all set up with initial knob voltages set to 0 but if I finish one patch with a net positive or negative voltage, bypass that patch and enable the next patch, the starting voltage was what I was left with in the previous patch, if that makes sense. I can reproduce it in an empty patch running two instances of MIDI-STEP, PILE and uMAP. Initial voltage into both uMAPs is 0. Bypass one set and twiddle a knob, bypass it and enable the other copy and that uMAP shows the same voltage as the prior uMAP. Is this intended behaviour or a bug?
I guess you can argue in both directions: I just tried VCV’s MIDI modules and they behave the same way. I consider it more a bug or “nobody asked about it before”, so I will add improved bypass behavior to my MIDI related modules.
Thank you so much Ben! I know I’m an edge case, but when I perform live I play straight from VCV Rack patches so ensuring that bypassed patches are completely independent from one another is one less headache to have to manage. I appreciate all you do!
