Alphagem-O - Epicycles

Yeah, that’s a nice one, great sounds and mood.

My pleasure, thank you very much for listening, Lars!

Random ENVs Study

Study on how to make fixed sequences sound random and random sequences deterministic. The intent of the exercise was to create a limited feel of randomness, while maintaining a certain sense of direction.

Generative ambient soundscape with synth chords, acoustic guitar lead, bass and two noise tracks.

The chord progression in Timeline Player (Entrian) is fixed, but each chord note is played with randomized volume envelopes (trigger and ADSR), yielding different pitch combinations and flow dynamics on every play, while keeping the overall chord structure recognizable.

Patch uses VCV Rack Pro + Host, four instances of Zyklop VST (free) by Dawesome for the pad voice, each with a different timbre and playing a different chord note, and Dynamic Guitars VST (free) by DSK as lead acoustic guitar.

The Compressor (VCV) module is from in VCV Rack Pro, but can easily be replaced by any other standard compressor.

The noise samples “Movement-07.wav” and “Movement-47.wav” in sickoPlayer (Sickozell) are from the free sample library “InterSpace” by Introspectral. The pack can be downloaded from 99Sounds.

Random guitar melody was created with Melodygen (SS-Modules). The bass plays random notes created with NoteSeq16 (JW Modules).

Play the patch by starting the clock by clicking the RUN button on the CLKD (Impromptu) module. The clock turns off automatically after the Timeline Player clip ends (at about 2m30s). When disconnecting the two cables coming from the ‘End of clip’ port of Timeline Player, the patch will play continuously.

Scale is C Major.

Eternity

Generative ambient soundscape. Followed up on a couple of basic ideas: Tuned Delay + (Surge XT) for pluck sounds, feeding Delay (VCV) output back into its input for percussive noise sounds, Arrange (JW Modules) + polyphonically controlled Slew (Bogaudio) for arrangement with volume fades, and an atmo created using Marbles into Rings into Clouds, i.e. Random Sampler into Resonator (both Mutable Instruments) into Nebulae (Sanguine Mutants).

Maximus-VST (Image Line) in Host-FX (VCV) was used as compressor for loudness during recording, but removed from the patch thereafter.

Scale is C minor.

nice. I can see it’s c minor - the Squinkronix modules are set to that

The Harmony modules are really great for making chords, so useful, thank you!

Nightfall over the Cedars

Ambient generative soundscape. Further exploration of ‘determined randomness’. Percussive noise using delay with feedback. Sine bell. Two pads and a vintage lead. Melody ‘tuned’ to chords.

Maximus-VST (Image Line) in Host-FX (VCV) was used as compressor for loudness during recording, but removed from the patch thereafter.

Scale is C minor.

Resonant Propulsion

Generative ambient soundscape. Petite patch. Audio from Resonator (Audible Instruments) feeds into an envelope follower (Follow by Bogaudio), which controls clock speed (LLFO by Bogaudio). Lush reverb (Plateau by Valley). Several modulations for variety.

Scale is D# minor pentatonic.

Imaginary Walk

Generative ambient grand piano piece with a jazzy feel. Basic note sequence created with Walk (Bogaudio). Melody arpeggiation accomplished with Arp (Hampton Harmonics) in Outside In mode. Three voices: One Pad and two pianos.

For the main piano sound, the patch uses the Alicia’s Keys/NI Kontakt 5 VSTi, placed inside the Host (VCV) module. This module can be replaced with any other piano module or VST. CV (pitch) input is connected to the V/Oct of Arp (Hampton Harmonics). Gate input connects to the Gate output of DGATE (Bogaudio), and the Velocity input wires to the output of OFS (docB) to the right. Host audio outputs go to the audio input of the Plateau module to the right.

Scale is C minor.

Amorphous

Generative ambient soundscape. Softly flowing, shapeless, meditative. Four voices.

Maximus-VST (Image Line) in Host-FX (VCV) was used as compressor for loudness during recording, but removed from the patch thereafter.

Scale is F# Major Pentatonic.

Anuli µMatrix

Generative ambient soundscape. Pitch sequences created by four playheads of µMatrix (docB) are fed into Anuli (Sanguine Mutants) at different octaves. Anuli is a polyphonic version of the Rings resonator module. 2D playhead movements are controlled by ramp LFOs and modulated by Follow (Bogaudio). One voice. Additional modulation, stereo spreader, reverb and limiter. Compact patch. Scale is F# Major pentatonic with built-in variation.

Undetermined Consequences of Swaying

Generative ambient soundscape. Generally, some pluck sounds actually have beautiful tails that can serve well as lush pads. In this example, the sharp edge of a pluck from String VCO (Surge XT) was softened using an ADSR envelope with long attack, leaving only the residual, draw-out, textured tail. Flows on softly forever.

VCV’s Compressor is a commercial plugin, but can easily be replaced with a compressor of your choice or left out if you prefer.

Scale is D# minor pentatonic.

Both are really beautiful pieces. Well done!

Thank you so much :pray::grinning:!

Summer in Antarctica

Generative ambient soundscape. Six voices: Two pads, bass, lead, noise, percussion. Lead voice is a filtered, bent sine wave. Randomized Polygene (Rare Breeds) for triggers that control timing of noise and perc. High-resonance filter ping used for percussive elements.

Maximus-VST (Image Line) in Host-FX (VCV) was used as compressor for loudness during recording, but removed from the patch thereafter.

Scale is C minor pentatonic. Tempo: 60 bpm.

This is a good case study of creating a synth pad.
