Advice on using VCV Rack to effect MIDI pitch within Ableton Live

Hi!

I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help with a routing issue I’m having with VCV Rack/Ableton Live.

I’m attempting to use the Tezca module by OME to modulate incoming MIDI pitch played live on a MIDI keyboard, with a Max4Live instrument then providing the audio.

I’ve been able to do this successfully when generating MIDI pitch with a Rack patch by using two separate MIDI tracks in Live, one for VCV Rack containing a patch with a sequencer and Tezca and another for the Max4Live instrument set with monitoring In receiving MIDI from VCV Rack. However, I’ve not been able recreate this when using MIDI performed live with the Max4Live track armed for recording - have tried workarounds with VCV Rack and Rack FX plugins in separate tracks and as return tracks with different patches routing signal in various ways. I think the issue may be related to how VCV Rack/Live process MIDI polyphony? Or potentially this is something VCV Rack is unable to do, requiring it to act more similarly to Live’s MIDI effects, and the best solution would be to run a VST similar to the Max4Live instrument in Host within a self-contained Rack patch.

Here’s a Soundcloud link to a 30 sec clip of a VCV patch of random sampler (Marbles) > Tezca generating pitches for a Live track with Fors’ Pluck Karplus-Strong synth as the instrument, with random sampler set to sound melodic.

Thanks!
