Imo, from a musical standpoint, a bassline with 16th notes as you describe wouldn’t really sound right. A 303 line would typically have a gate length of 1/32, i.e. 1/2 of a sixteenth note. A moog bassline with slides would also be staccato. You also can’t use release portion of the envelope on successive notes as there is almost no space between the notes.
Meanwhile I wrote to support as well. They are very friendly and pretty responsive but for now I got the same answer as you, recommending the workaround via polyphony.
Anyway… let’s wait for the things that are to come.
I’m still waiting here for merging a fix I provided over a year and a half ago, how are things going VCV support? Since it’s been a while here is the issue again:
I’d like a right click option added to the MIDI to CV converter, so that when a note off occurs, and then a note on occurs in sequence, the gate signal can go low for one sample before going high. This will allow for DAWs and Sequencers that don’t themselves add the gap, namely Ableton Live, and specifically when doing step sequencing from their MIDI clip editor or directly on Push.
Thanks!
Here is another project showing the issue:

And here is a video showing both clips playing. The top clip has the “default” entered notes into Live’s sequencer, where the end of one note is at the same time as the start of the next. The second clip I have manually reduced the length of each note slightly. When deleting a note and entering a new one via the regular step sequencing workflow in Live / Push the note is at full length, not reduced length, so I’l love a right click option, as I’ve already implemented in a fix, to allow VCV to correctly gate the notes coming from Live.

VCV has written on the forum:
" Bug reports and feature requests for VCV Rack are allowed in order to discuss with other users, but they are not handled by VCV developers. Contact VCV Support for reporting bugs and requesting features." (link)
The FR was submitted over a year ago, but thanks for pointing out the obvious for those not aware of the situation.
