4MS Tapographic Delay!

This is one module I always thought it would be great to have in VCV. Anyone else played with it yet? I’ve got some cool sounds without knowing what I’m doing, so I thought time to RTFM. Trouble is, the link is to the manual for the hardware, and it doesn’t seem to make much sense for the software version. For example it mentions holding down two buttons at once for a few functions, which isn’t possible with a mouse. Also the pad you tap can’t be velocity sensitive from a mouse click either. Any pointers (excuse the mouse pun)?

Thanks.

I have only had a brief look so far. There are settings in the context menu under Alt Parameters. Does that help?

You’ll need to have a midi controller and hook up the gate and velocity to do the velocity sensitive taps. I’m definitely loving this new module. I did Omri Cohen’s latest tutorial setup for metallic noises with the 4 fm-ops and ran that through the tapographic and it sounded amazing.

Thanks, yeah Rings sounds good through it too. I’ll have another look but couldn’t see a trigger input for that.

It sounds very good. Really enjoying it.

out of the gate is already making amazing sounds! so far the double pressed buttons is fixed with the right click menu, and you can always modulate the velocity if you are missing the press sensitivity thingy. cpu-wise is a beast tho, as the rest of the 4ms modules so far. i think vcv falls shorter in FX overall, so im really happy for this release. hope they keep on coming!

I also played around with for a bit and had some interesting accidental results. Also followed the link to the manual for the hardware. It states that this is a delay module that should be played/performed and not be dialed to a certain setting and left alone. So I guess I will hook up a mini controller and see where that leads.

If you don’t have a midi keyboard, you can use a computer keyboard for taps and a mouse for velocity. Interesting things can be done with Marbles in different modes with a high Jitter level just for fun. Or just use Push in conjunction with S&H, focusing on taps and leaving velocity to the Great Random. :sunglasses:

Just a quick tip about the velocity, you can use Twelve-Key from Impromptu, and connect the gate and velocity. This way, you can click with the mouse and get also velocity variation according to where you click on the keys

Ah, cheers Omri! That works with a controller too. Thanks to everyone else that replied, I’m getting there slowly, just need to spend more time with it. I did try using the pads on a Beatstep into the velocity and gate inputs (from the MIDI-CV module) and it does vary the filter. I didn’t think of that trick with Twelve-key though, thanks! This thing really does produce some huge soundscapes from a few notes. Great fun with guitar too Omri!
