60 year old “senior” with a bevy of interests, but as I grow older I have been narrowing the hobbies down to the things that I enjoy the most so I can get better at them: golf, drums, musical composition and recording - both with others and on my own - and then learning the necessary tools with which to do it: Ableton and Reaper and the whole shebang of software and hardware that is in both my home studio and a jam space we are fortunate to have.
I enjoy music in general, consider myself an audiophile who’s collected a nice selection of good equipment, including tube amps and speakers that I have built with kits. I enjoy working with wood, riding my Harley, camping, meditation and mindfulness, collecting and reading the “classics”, cooking, working out…. really, anything that adds to the spice of life and the understanding of my place in it.
I’m a business partner in a small well-run company who’s fortunate enough to love my job. I’ve built a personal website that was intended to be a running journal of sorts but was also an experiment for when I plan to retire one day when I’ll build another for a consulting business I will likely run part time as I don’t know what retirement means.
I believe in empathy, listening to people more than talking at them, being a manager who my employees trust and enjoy working for, and being a friend.
My favourite two quotes are:
“Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” Viktor Frankl
“There are two types of pain you will go through in life, the pain of discipline and the pain of regret. Discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” Jim Rohn
