[Yamaha Portasound PSS 280 -> Behringer UMC22 -> asio4all] Audio interface no longer making any sound in VCV rack

Apologies that similar problems have been posted about before, but I’m at a bit of a loss here looking at the other threads, and specifying my hardware may be helpful here because the same solution doesn’t seem to work anymore.

I had a Boss SY-1 pedal plugged into the Behringer interface before, and after some trial and error and downloading drivers off the web, I got VCV to detect it through asio4all. It seems my driver settings reset, though, and using the same drivers for the pedal with my Yamaha keyboard for some reason doesn’t seem to fix it now.

I have an SY-1 too, it’s a pedal that just outputs audio so VCV can’t ‘detect’ it as such - either your audio interface is working or it isn’t. Does it record/play back in other programs?

I would ditch asio4all and try the Behringer drivers. Surely they provide an original manufacturer’s ASIO driver? Also which OS are you on?

I am guessing Windows because of Asio4All. And yes, some manufacturers of very cheap interfaces rely on Asio4All.

Ah, no I’m not trying to use the SY-1, I got it to work fine (with some hiss but still) after messing around with the drivers. The problem is that with the Portasound specifically it doesn’t work in VCV, which is odd, because listening back to it through windows sound settings doesnt give it any problems.

For the UMC22, Behringer doesn’t provide anything. Last time I had to dig around the web for a few drivers people recommended, and I think I ultimately had to use something for a different audio interface altogether, but it seems not to work anymore.

I’m on windows 10

Ah OK, I’m not sure what you’re trying to do though.

Are you taking audio outs from the Portasound, plugging them into the Behringer interface and trying to get the sound into VCV?

Do you need to use ASIO or would another Windows driver work better?

Sorry for not responding earlier, just using directsound was fine after tweaking with it for a bit. Bit of a silly question on my part.
