which laptop do you use?

I have an Asus laptop with discrete graphics that works great. You need to tell Windows to use the discrete graphics for rack. Intel chips IIRC have the best architecture for multithreading, unless more recent AMD chips have changed. Not sure how threading works on the Apple M chips.

Windows 11 assigning graphics preferences per application

I’ve been setting up vcvrack on a new Asus Tuf Gaming laptop & was having the screen go black while Rack was running. When Rack’s window reappeared the display was frozen. Turns out with Windows 11 you have to tell it to use the dedicated graphics adapter with Rack. What was happening was a Windows deciding on graphics performance on the fly while Rack was running & it wasn’t pretty.
