you are challenged to make a patch in vcv rack to showcase creative use of modules, so other users may get inspired. you can also win eternal fame!

since this is edition 42, i wanted to do a relevant theme: question and answer

i’m sure many people will get the reference… how you interpret the theme is up to you (using delay, sampling, or something less literal). the phenomenon has a long history in music, in a variety of genres. i’m looking forward to seeing and hearing what you come up with!

• make a patch in vcv rack using the chosen module and upload your patch to https://patchstorage.com/ and/or in your reply to this thread
• tag your upload with vcp-42
• you are encouraged to only use free modules in the patch, but this is not required
• make a video showcasing your patch and upload it to youtube
• add a link to your video as a comment to this post (these videos will be collected in a playlist)
• give feedback on other participants’ patches

deadline: monday end of the day, wherever you are, october 28th
(though late entries will still be added to the playlist)

a new challenge with a different module will be announced every other tuesday.

VCP-42 Answer for Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe, and Everything

Today I presents my entry for VCP-42 and … :slight_smile: Thanks to Omri Cohen for tutorial about Damian Lillard module from Frozen Wasteland it was very helpfull for my patch today. Thanks Omri. I’ve been working on a patch lately that fits this challenge, I am quite new to the program and my graphics card isn’t up for the task of recording video just yet, but that will change soon :slight_smile: For now, here is a still picture of the active patch with the first export I tried with it. Enjoy!


I finally noticed that the REC module records video, so I whipped this up. I wish I could have incorporated a HHG reference now! I’ll just pretend the drone was meant to be a moaning android.

Here’s my entry for VCP-42. The patch started out as an experiment with low pass gates after reading about them in Patch & Tweak. Then I saw Omri messing around with Luppolo this morning and …

My gawd x 3:

  • I managed to record my screen (had a lot of issues with vcv-recorder, no matter what settings it always just glitched… thanks to someone who somewhere here pointed me to OBS – the search work, use it :skull:).
  • I made my patch in time (still working on that last challenge - no reverb / delay…).
  • And I like the way it sounds. :skull:

Beauty of a soundscape, really, but don’t really fit the challenge IMHO! But it’s a nice patch. May I suggest you to use the Nysthi’s recorder to take the audio to prevent audio glitches…?

Thanks, & you´re right. I did interpret the challenge very freely and strayed far from the more common understanding of Q & A in music.

Does Nysthi record video as well, I just used it for audio, or did you mean to screen record w/o sound + edit in the Nysthi audio afterwards?

No, I’m affraid it doesn’t. Personally, I use OBS for image and master recorder 2 from Nysthi for the audio and then edit and synchronize with a Simple video editor (premiere element in my case, but there are surely plenty of freeware available). The VCV recorder has improved its performance but a high end computer seems to be still required to record a medium large patch, so to say!


Just jumping in to tell there is Shotcut if you are looking for one :wink:
It’s available on Windows Mac and Linux
It’s rather simple but gets the work done, i use it a lot for my channel


which is totally fine. i intentionally left the interpretation of the theme wide open.


I was a little worried there for a second. My patch only loosely follows the theme. Or general musical sense.
