=== very cool patch challenge, edition 41 ===

like @Yeager said, … use the VCV recorder, easy, works like a charm and does audio and video.

ofc this will only record the things happening within VCV, if you want to make more, like tutorial vids, OBS is the way to go

Thanks very much. Already had it, but oviously overlooked it.
Edit: Doesn’t work for me. Fps goes down to 7 frames. Think i have to find out how to make OBS record my sound.

Master Recorder from Nysthi for audio and obs for image. I allways (almost) did like that. Than synchronized in a video editor with some cosmetic effects and titles.

I think that’s the way to go for atm. Thanks. What’s your way of syncing both?

Same workflow here !

  1. Launch video recording
  2. Launch audio (use the master recorder from Nysthi since it has a vu meter.)
  3. Play a percussive sound. At least something with a fast attack.
  4. Play your piece.
In the editor, align the video and the audio thanks to the percussive sound and the vu meter.
Than cut both video and audio at the beginning of the piece… And that’s it!

Thanks.

Here is my try for this challenge. Quick and dirty without those fancy effects, but lots of distortion

(hope soundcloud is okey for vcp)

My way of doing is having a keystroke to lauch the recording in OBS (alt-x if i remember) and pressing the record button at the exact same time
I almost always manage to be in sync

Here’s my entry for VCP-41

I wanted to do something fragile and unstable sounding with the raw oscillators.

I was trying to fathom Marc’s binaural panning question from another post and see if it was possible to achieve such a thing in normal stereo. I’m not sure how successful I was but I kind of like the results.
I thought a helicopter would be a good test subject.

Heres the patch. https://patchstorage.com/becoming-cyclonic-vcp-41/

This time I had something laying around that I thought would be good if I just took the reverb and delay out:

https://patchstorage.com/robots-together/
There’s one bit where I wish I had delay to put on for some differentiation, but the distortion/resonant filter effect sort of did the same thing.
I’m actually pretty happy with this one! Unusual.

Nice! Listening to this while I work. :grinning: Everything sounds really clear with no reverb or delay.

thx. But i so wanted to use delay in that bit where the robot voice goes distorted.
And it occured to me about 3 hours after i put that up that I could use 8 face to make SAM actualy rhyme.

thx. I started out using your Pattern module for all the rhythms but it was a little to “out”. I do think that the drums i had in the end are a little “straight” though.

i made a jazzy patch, prominently featuring geodesics and lindenberg modules, as well as the repelzen rewin quantizer (using its scenes) and my own chaotic lfo modules. i basically mixed this as mono, so without my usual stereo effects, besides the absence of reverb and delay as required by the challenge. bridged to reaper for some eq and saturation (and made sure to mute my valhalla vintage verb channel, which i usually have low in the mix).

edit: and i used this scale: https://ianring.com/musictheory/scales/1739

a fun challenge!

Uhm, I am not sure if the delay I used here is considered wet or not. Surely, I didn’t used it to “wet” the patch!

Oh well, I refer to the judgment of those who will listen! Very chiptune-ish! It’s an utterly simple loop, made in five minutes or so…EDITED AND REMOVED…

The Lateralus modules gave a very gritty dynamics to the whole patch!

it’s a delay… and the challenge is to build a patch without delay (and without reverb)
