Venom Development blog - New modules in dev: Null Cable, Poly Mute, Poly Prune

I am still waiting for Chaos Boxes to be released by VCV. I’ve asked for the release to be as soon as possible. Andrew cannot give me a release date. Hopefully it will be soon . . .

I’ve gone ahead and published the Chaos Boxes documentation.

There should be a simultaneous update to Venom Oscillations for an esoteric bug fix and improved rendering of square buttons.

So Chaos Boxes was released within the past 20 minutes, and wouldn’t you know it, I have a music performance tonight that I have to prepare for, so it will be a while before I can post a formal announcement. Ugh!

Venjolin+ is amazing! I had been very happy with your earlier Matrix Benjolin patch modded with Audible Instruments Macro Synthesizer (Plaits) as the external source for regular use in Bitwig Studio and operated through my MIDI Fader Controller. This is now a totally streamlined and beautiful instrument to play with.

I would be glad to share my patch using Venjolin+ if it would be acceptable to do so (Venjolin+ is the only paid module in the patch).

I am, however, experiencing a small annoyance, but I suspect it is a Bitwig to VCV Clap thing where the parameter states for VCV are being stored in the patch with the last sent value from Bitwig and this becomes an offset for when the patch is next opened. I might try correcting this with a block of Patchmaster controls that act as a go-between VCV FX Grid output values and the stored settings (Venjolin+, BogAudio Offset, Audible Macro Synth/Plaits, and Plateau all seem to be affected by this to lesser or greater amounts). It’s an easy 45 seconds to correct at the start of a session, but it interrupts the potential flow state.

Again, thank you so much for this, Dave! Grazie!

Wonderful news - thanks! Yes, please feel free to post the patch. It would be best in the Chaos Boxes announcement thread.

Inclusion of a video or audio recording with your patch in use would be extra special!

I hope you can solve your Bitwig issue. Let me know if you figure out the problem is on on my end.

It’s not your plugins. It is something about Clap and VST3. Only VST2 on Windows or Linux with Bitwig Studio v6.0.3 are working as expected (Linux has some frame resizing issues).

Have reported to VCV Support.

Since Chaos Boxes has been released I have finished developing the last three modules for my upcoming v2.15 release of the free Venom plugin.

Null Cable

Nullify a cable by setting it to 0 channels via manual or CV control. documentation
This is basically a compact version of the Sapphire Moots module, giving you 3 input/output pairs in 3 hp as opposed to 5 pairs in 10 hp. There are a few more differences that you can read about in the documentation.

Poly Mute

Mute individual channels of two polyphonic inputs via buttons or CV. documentation
This is a fairly strait forward version of a stereo poly mute module, but there are some interesting twists described in the documentation.

Poly Prune

Remove selected channels and/or sort channels from a polyphonic input. documentation
This came about largely as a result of this inquiry. Definitely read the manual to get a sense of the potential of this module. It pairs really well with Poly Mute and WinComp.

Here is an example of how it could work to remove channels that fall outside the range 1 - 3 volts, like in the original request:

All eight new modules are available for testing if you have a free GitHub account.
Venom v2.15.dev4 binaries

I plan to submit version 2.15 to the Library by this weekend. So you have a little time to test and report bugs or doc errors, or request changes.

Once released I need to take a break from development and actually get back to making some music!

Here is the proposed change log for the upcoming release:
