VCV Rack Pro & MIDI->CV: High resolution PPQN from DAW?

Hi there,

By using VCV Rack 2 Pro (v2.6.6) as VST3 or CLAP plugin, it looks the PPQN - via VCV MIDI→CV module, is limited to 24 PPQN (prehistoric Roland Sync24 / MIDI DIN “standard”).

Most modern DAWs such REAPER, Live, Cubase or Logic Pro are using 960 PPQN (I’ve read somewhere Bitwig Studio is using insane 16384 PPM), as clocking resolution.

Is it a way to override the MIDI→CV module limitation?

Thanks in advance.

My understanding: 24ppqn is fine for syncing Rack patches with host. Rack can use modules to subdivide the input clock as needed. @vortico or another implementer can address how note/cc data works. I suspect note events from the host present to Rack at native resolution. It would be more expensive for the MIDI notes to be quantized to wrppqn.

Okay… thank you for your explanation. Unforunately mine sequencers (FroeZe in particular) are using 32 PPQN only (by chance, I’ve anticipated this fact for W.I.P. FranKe sequencer module).

FranKe module & PPNQ choice (32 or 24) via module’s contextual menu:

I’ll must add a similar option for FroeZe module! (I never used it from Bitwig Studio nor REAPER)

Couple of days ago, I’ve updated (a bit) my prehistoric KlokSpid module to deliver X32 on output #4, by default (instead of X4 in previous releases). If I’m not wrong, many Imprompu modules are using 32 PPQN… (but I’m absolutely not sure, or possibly Marc Boulé - Imprompu Modular developer - have updated them).

I admit PPQN 24 is enough in most cases, however.
