The interesting thing is that you can do things like duplicate the response of a reverb, or whatever. Just a trigger works great. Record the output of whatever signal chain you have in mind.
One thing - if you break the rules - like load an “IR” that’s actually a bunch of tones, it can get nasty if the input you use hits the same frequencies. Sharp sounds into an IR with sustained tones acts like a vocoder of sorts, but is not as controllable as a vocoder.

I also recorded about 10 seconds of a click into Unfiltered Audio Instant Delay, and it sounds like a delay when loaded into the VCV Convolver. Even weirder when I take IR files and pitch them down. The possibilities are endless, but I won’t say that they’re always useful possibilities.
Of course, some people’s garbage is other people’s treasure.
