Hi,
In various analysers there are settings for various windows eg Hamming, von Hann/Hanning, rectangular etc.
I have read wiki regarding these windows but my eyes just glaze over.

Bottom line, why the different windows and more importantly which ones to use and WHEN and WHY?

They offer different accuracy in different ways. For us casual users, we don’t like to see a bunch of spurious side-lobes, so "“kaiser” is a favorite window (if you are looking at a periodic signal like a sinewave + distortion).
