SignalFunctionSet Release Announcements

Thanks @Alphagem-O, I’m glad you like it! Looking at the module, I think there is room there, and agree it would be a useful add. I’ll bring it in.

@Alphagem-O and @egor.yashukov I’ve updated both Phase and Kit in the new nightly build. Please feel welcome to join the discord here where you’ll fine the nightly build if you’d like to try the fixes out early.

For Phase, I added a few things:

  • Both channels now have a level control
  • Both channels now have a cv controllable DJ style filter
  • I’ve added a polyphonic (four channel) audio out
  • Since there was a bit more room I added a trigger out on loop start which can be used to sync other modules to the start of playback.

Thanks so much, this is marvelous! And you responded incredibly fast :folded_hands:.

I’ve tested the new Level, Filter and Poly Audio and Poly Sync Trig on WIN10 and all worked fine.

What can I say? It’s four times better now. CPU usage dropped from 43–50% to 4–10% at a 96 kHz sample rate. Many thanks!

I’d also like to suggest a few improvements for Loom. It’d be great to add memory slots with the ability to crossfade between them with different modulation for the parameters shown on the display — like Tune, Level, Decay, etc. I think the module itself is well‑suited for this feature. It would allow creating variations — different chords and melodic sequences, as well as dynamics, nuances, and so on.

I’d also like the input next to the Octave knob to actually control octave modulation — and have it happen musically, i.e., right before the next gate triggers. Now it just acts as a basic tune.

Liked Trace. Damn it’s beautiful stuff. Finger crossed that its would be buggy free lol

Thanks @octex912 letcme know if you did find any issues!

Very nice modules! Flock doesn’t seem to produce any signal though.

I’m sorry to hear it is not working for you. Could you share a bit more about your setup and patch? Happy to look at a screenshot or the patch file.

This was on a Macbook (M3 Pro) running Sonoma 14.6.1. It’s working now. It seems like the sample rate was an issue (apparently I had it set to 96 kHz). Setting it at 48kHz solved the issue.

Ah, interesting, I will test it out at 96, glad you were able to get it working!

Version 2.22 is in the Library, with three new modules.

Carillon is a set of 25 bells, one per semitone, joined by a set of transmission lines. Strike a bell and the energy spreads out along the lines. Longer rods take longer to cross, and REACH sets how far a strike travels. You can lay the bells out as a ring, grid, keyboard, spiral or scatter, and drag two microphones around for stereo. The bells are tuned like real bells, and SIZE changes their weight without moving the pitch.

Canon is four arpeggiators playing a shared chord progression. Each channel has its own pattern, wander and octave, and Fugue’s harmonic lock keeps them consonant with each other. There are 20 progressions built in, or play a chord into LEARN. I am thinking about adding a separate octave control to give each channel more range.

Count is an 8HP clock with six outputs. Each output has a division and a rhythmic mask (odd, even, Euclidean, bursts and more) over a shared step count. It runs from its own tempo or an external clock, and a mask can rotate every cycle. Now that it is live I realize how important stop/start is, so I’ll likely add that in an upcoming build.

Phase also picks up per-player level and a DJ-style filter, a four-channel poly out, and a sync out that fires when each loop starts.

Feedback and patches welcome, as always.

I really liked the Сarillon, as I adore bells and gongs. It produces great, large gong sounds with a swelling resonance after the strike and variations on that theme. However, there are a few issues: even at low brightness settings, there are audible clicks, almost like a trigger sound. And at high brightness combined with low damping, the sound sometimes distorts heavily—possibly because the energy from a previous strike overlaps with the next one, and so on. In any case, thank you for these wonderful modules—and for offering them for free.

And one more thing about the Сarillon. My goal was to have low brightness on the initial hit, with the value ramping up to maximum on subsequent hits. I tried to achieve this using an envelope, but its response time was too slow. I suspected the issue might be due to sample delays; however, adjusting them didn’t solve the problem. As a workaround, I used a standard delay with a long delay time: I routed the trigger signal through the delay to the Carillon module, while sending the undelayed trigger to the envelope. It seems that parameter modulation in your module may occur gradually rather than instantly.

Every time a new module comes out from you it’s always something either satisfying to scratch my physical modeling itch, some cool modulation or other experimental monster that has me intrigued… I have quite a lot to catch up on but I know there’s a lot of physical models coming to my Mac and I can mix with your modulation and sequencers too…

Thanks for this feedback @egor.yashukov I will work on the distortion and noise. You might try using the poly output and mixing from there as well in the meantime.

Thank you very much @shawnbortree19 ! Really appreciate hearing that.

Amazing stuff you put out for us mere plebs  Thanks a bunch for all the awesome sound candy.
