Sending cv from hardware sequencer to VCV in Bitwig 5.2.7 with ES-10 (ADAT)

Hi,

I’m trying to send CV from a hardware Sequencer (Nerdseq for example) to VCV VST3 in Bitwig (5.2.7).

To provide context, my audio interface is an RME Fireface UCX II, which handle ADAT. Next to my hardware sequencer, I have an Expert Sleepers ES-10 as ADAT interface.

In Bitwig, inside the VCV VST3 instrument track, I put an Audio 16 (Pilote : Daw, with frequence 48kHz and size block 64 samples as on my audio interface).

Nothing come out from the outs of Audio 16. Whether it’s cv or sound.

I know that my ADAT communication is working because when I try to receive CV or Audio from the Nerdseq into the Grid, it works. But with VCV rack vst, I can’t figure how to do it.

Any idea ?

I finally managed to receive the CV using a VCV FX plugin on an audio track. But only channels 1 and 2 “From Device” of Audio 16 works. When I try to use the other channels, it doesn’t work. Strange.

Have you looked into using the Expert Sleeper modules for VCV Rack?

I can’t be of more help since I don’t own the Expert Sleeper modules but I have seen the Expert Sleeper VCV modules in the library that, as I understand, are supposed to be used with Expert Sleeper hardware modules.

I think the VCV modules also help to calibrate your hardware module too. Again, I’m going off of memory of watching Youtube videos in the past when I was more interested in a hybrid setup but never pulled the trigger on.

I wasn’t aware of their existence ! I will investigate that.

Thank you !

I checked out the Expert Sleepers VCV modules; nothing for the ES-10, but thanks anyway !

I found a partial workaround.

If I create an audio track in Bitwig using, say, input 13 of my audio interface (which corresponds to ADAT 1 in my setup) and then insert a VCV effect (VCV Fx) on it, I can place an “Audio 16” module inside VCV. The cv or audio signal then arrives via “From Device 1,” rather than “From Device 13” as I had expected.

My ES-10 offers 8 CV/audio inputs and 8 outputs, mapped to channels 13 through 20 of my audio interface, respectively.

Following the same procedure, I can create tracks for inputs 14, 15, and 16; it works.

But I can’t go any further. I think I could reassign inputs 17–20 of my audio interface to, say, channels 9–12; that way, I could use the “Audio 16” module again.

It’s just strange not being able to handle everything on a single track with just one “Audio 16” module.

Sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing or convoluted ; I’m posting this just in case it might be useful to someone else.
