Recommendations for running multiple racks on one host

There is a small au host called Hosting AU, I sometimes use it when I want to access my au and auv3 plugins. See if it’s stable enough for your use case. However, it’s not apple silicon native, works fine for me.

sent to support? I’m on win so I can’t help you

many big (-ish) live shows nowadays are running on a 1-laptop on REAPER. I wouldn’t throw the towel

p.s. seeing Bespoke - as @Jens.Peter.Nielsen mentioned - I remembered that TouchDesigner can run VSTs in the “audio vst chop” operator, I’m very busy atm otherwise I could give it a try for you

Haven’t thought of this. It does work, but patches struggle (similar to Bespoke). One patch that runs fine in Bitwig brings down TD FPS in half (and that means actual UI FPS). I imagine TD has a lot of CPU overhead even without any visual nodes, or it’s just not very optimized for running VST.

Also, TD with its audio device out has this annoying thing where if it struggles the audio will audibly pitch down a bit. I had this happen before just piping audio to TD from VCV. It’s not an issue if VCV plays directly to system out though… Which could be OK, but it means I can’t postprocess VCV sound in the host.

I found H-AU eventually. Both H-AU and Carla refuse to run on my machine (macOS says it can’t check it for malware or such).

This is because Apple requires “pay to play” and otherwise makes users think that they are installing a virus.

I know that for Carla the dev recently got a developer key and will be signing binaries in the future, so you won’t get this issue. You can still install the tools if you allow them from the settings > privacy & security dialog.
