hello, i have problems with 8Face mk2. if i import a selection with Strip++ the parameters of the selected modules are preserved. thats good. but if i push a preset button on the 8Face mk2, the parameters are gone. the peviously saved presets are not working anymore. my question: should 8Face mk2 could do that, or is not integrated? Greetings Karl
You mean, you are switching presets with 8FACE for a module which is using parameter mappings, and import these modules using a selection? Then no, neither STRIP++ nor 8FACE (mk2) do fix this.
I guess the idea was to switch presets of a mapping-module like MIDI-CAT. While this also works with 8FACE, it does not when importing a selection.
yes you are correct. if i save a selection include somes modules and 8facemk2 with his saved presets, only the used preset is imported via strip++. if i push a preset button on 8facemk2, the mappings are gone. for example: all patchmaster mappings are lost.
and if push the button again to load the preset, nothing happens. the lights on the patchmaster flashed up one time, thats all. i think, the parameters are not saved in 8facemk2. but i only guess…
The known problem with 8face with respect to selections is that 8face is based on the module ID of existing modules. A selection, when it’s pasted, gets all new module IDs. So the 8face can be saved in a selection, its list of bound module IDs dont correspond to the new modules the selection creates.
8face works best if you create a patch and then bind a bunch of modules. The module IDs stay the same in a patch, so the connections to them work when the patch is reloaded.
8Face is a cool hack, that leverages the Rack API in a way @Vortico didn’t foresee in his design of Rack. That means it works, but has limitations. Ben saw possibilities in the Rack API that others didn’t.
thank you for the clarification. i remember that i read about it, but did not understand the consequences. my idea for now: if the selection is imported, i will save this as a preset in 8facemk2. therefore all modules will be saved with the new id. am i right?
I don’t 100% understand the question but in general this is what I do, that I 100% know works.
- Make a selection including the 8face and all modules
- When I paste the selection, re-bind all the modules to the 8face
- Rewrite all presets, as the old ones won’t change anything, because of the ID mismatch.
A quirk - and @stoermelder can correct me if I’m wrong - is that 8Face presets are not portable, because of the ID issue. You can’t save an 8Face preset that was bound to 3 modules, then reload it and have it do anything useful. The IDs for the modules it was bound to are no longer valid. The modules might exist, but they’re not bound to the 8Face.
yes thank you. this is what i ask and understand. now this is my way.
