I saw another modular YouTube channel do a ‘Rings into Guitar’ video recently, and I’ve been doing this for years so I made a v2.0 version of an old multi-Rings patch. It uses Anuli instead of the stock VCV Rings, because it’s polyphonic. Cheers @Bloodbat !
Spamming out the modular guitar effects hard this week!
Here’s a variation of the multi-band delay I made recently. I’m using the individual frequency band outputs of PEQ-14, and each output goes to a different VCV Delay. The delays are modulated by a poly signal that’s split out to each delay. I couldn’t find a polyphonic delay that modulates in the same way as the VCV one (apart from Polydelay, which sadly doesn’t work on arm64 Macs), so had to patch a delay for each channel, which I then merged into a poly cable and chucked into Sapphire Echo in polyphonic mode for even more delay. This creates a kind of spectral effect where the different delay times on each channel cause the sound to step up the frequency bands.
There’s actually a lot you can with this, so there’s a tutorial coming soon as well.
Run out of inspiration recently, been on holiday cycling in the French Alps and then had a few weeks off from uploading to YouTube, because frankly it does my head in and I couldn’t be arsed. Also we’ve had unusually nice weather in Scotland, so I’ve had to take advantage and do more cycling, and less VCV
Anyway, recently I’ve been trying different polyphonic modulation sources so I’ve used a few of my favourites to make some sound effects over an ambient drone, and uploaded it as an offering to the gods of the algorithm.
Yep, I love cold, icy, digital ambient pads! Any wavetable VCO into Supermassive usually does the business for that. It’s a little bit 90’s/retro but that’s what I like!
The ear candy layers were maybe slightly over the top, but that was the main idea.
Ha, thanks! Most people relate this stuff to space, underwater is an interesting take. I do love to make liquid-like sounds though, so it makes sense.
One of those patches that started with something simple, then I added a lot of stuff very quickly, and am now unsure what half of it does!
Currently trying to unpick it and load into Reaper to generate stems, so I can develop it with a friend. Standalone patches never seem quite the same in the DAW. Given myself a load of work there…
Not yet, it’s using quite a few VST effects, some samples and also Pigments for the bass sound. I might upload something, but I’d have to strip out a load of stuff and recreate some of the effects with native modules.
If you have the Host-FX module, I demonstrated how to make most of the sounds in the tutorial.
Made a free version, goes a bit dodgy sometimes. Just a bit chaotic really!
Patch download in the description… but the deal is you have to watch the video first and endure 10 minutes of random noises.
No VSTs in this version - all done with native VCV modules from free collections, that was the point.
In the earlier glitch patch I used Valhalla Freq Echo and Space Modulator, it’s all in the tutorial. Chain those two in series and modulate everything with sample and hold, makes some bonkers glitchy sounds.
Back to dark ambient drone stuff this week after seeing Fum on another thread (cheers @DaveVenom).
It’s a multi-effects module with pitch shifting, delay, chorus/flanger and reverb. The first thing I tried was patching it into Iroi in series, and wow, this makes some huge and really nasty sounds with far too much reverb. You could make a whole dark ambient album with these two modules.
It may not be very good but hey, that’s never stopped some people!
This week, it’s half an hour of chill. Been going through all my unfinished patches, and had the idea of recording them, then loading into samplers to mix into a new patch. Basically, there are generative elements here, and some really long loops which are brought in using the fade option on the Mindmeld mixer.
