The most interesting recent thing for me was Zyklop from Dawesome, very exciting way to use samples, often with pretty natural sounding results.
With no training in playing a practical drum kit, I have very little idea how to make nice drum groove patterns from scratch. This plugin is great for giving a starting point for grooves with matching fills. The drums with the plugin sound fine. But it’s also a simple matter to duplicate the midi track that MTPDK outputs and use it to drive other plugins with any desired drum sounds. [The intro video shows how to use the plugin as a midi input source only, to drive other plugins]. Good times!
This free Ursa Major Stargate 323 Emulation vst is new to me. sounds great.
Emulates this old (ca. 1983) thing:
at first test levels on vst3/win10/reaper sometimes go bananas
I’ll take a better look since it’s not possible to have enough reverbs
I don’t know what version you tried.
version 0.7.0 posted ca 10 hours ago should fix those reaper looping levels ( if I read the issues correctly)
Also, in the github he writes that the compiled binaries will not be free from the next version. you can get a 100% discount if you email before 01.march.2025 link
Hey, thanks for sharing The latest 0.7.0 release should fix all the level/feedback issues in Reaper. If you still run into issues best send me an email (see above).
Unstable by Morphoice is based on the Yamaha CS-80 - “Inspired by the pinnacle of analog synthesizers, the mighty Yamaha CS-80, UNSTABLE is in no way intended to be a CS-80 emulator but still probably closer to the real hardware than anything out there.”
Unfortunately, it was too unstable for my iMac to allow me to install it. I hope you have better luck.
Unstable is working for me, and very nice. There’s a separate .zip with 10-20 presets.
(Mac mini M1 16gb). Around 3% CPU but with another 25% in its own threads (adds to “kernel task” usage).
Stargate 323 – does what it says, but 20% CPU within VCV is a deal killer for me.
I Appreciate this thread!
Another (free) option for a Yamaha CS80 emulation:

BTW: Krakli offers many more interesting (free) VST plugins. 32-bit, but will run fine when bridged in 64-bit DAW

Hello, I wanted to try it, but I wasn’t able to bypass the apple quarantine with xattr command, how did you make it work?
Yes, exactly this. Worked for me. Are you able to use other non-signed VSTs?
Also, if there’s a .component file, make sure to manually put it into the proper folder. (Sorry, not at my machine right now; I don’t recall if there’s a . component file for this VST or not).
Component files are usually au plugins, which I never really need. But somehow I’ve succeeded with xatrr command so it’s all good now!
I have been looking for something like this for a while.
It’s only 6,90€ / $ 7
I have not been playing much with DAW/VST lately, but recently Quilcom popped up in some internet searches on some more unusual synthesis / emulation concepts/techniques.
For many years Quilcom (Rex Basterfield) has been creating many great and innovative, experimental…and FREE…plugins.
I have been playing around with many of them in the past.
A great variety of generators (oscillators/synths) and effects. Including many emulations of physical/natural world instruments/phenomena (even animals).
Inspiring stuff. Too many to list here. Just checkout for yourself:
Quilcom on Flowstoners
Wow, extremely cool stuff. Windows .dll only (sad face).
Sennheiser has released some their Dear Reality series plugins for free.
Might be worth a look.
