I love to process a single voltage source (Permutation in this example) with sample and holds, attenuverters, offsets, etc. to produce multiple melodic and harmonic parts. After you split the voltage into multiple threads, then you braid it back together with a polyphonic quantizer, and boom! You sound like a classical composer.
The synthesist using this technique finds control and expression in the processing of voltage. They fill an intermediary role, not quite composer, not quite performer. That seems to me to express something essential about computer music.
