Chaircrusher Music Thread

I released something I dug up from a box of CDRs. Three tracks from 1998. I don’t remember exactly how they got put together, but I think it might be a leaked beta version of Sonic Foundry Acid. The other thing I was using was Martin Fay’s Vaz Plus, which was a standalone soft synth with a 16 step sequencer and a few effects.

More of my usual things - sampling shortwave broadcasts, Euclidean drum rhythms.

That filthy bass sound comes from overdriving the Vult Ferox filter. I’m using both voices from the JW GridSeq - they use the same triggers but traverse the grid in YX order. So you get 2 voices out of the same sequence grid.

I’m branching out, including 2 sequenced chord voices. My use of Chord in this one is pretty caveman.

And if you’re looking for a new work philosophy, never be afraid to chain more effects and filters on a track. They can get away from you and surprise you, to where you’re not sure where that cool weird thing that happens is even coming from.

I found a @Matthew_Paine_Music music video and recorded it off YouTube at 1/4 speed. This gives it a real 1990 Akai sampler time stretch feel.

Then this video played after whatever I was actually watching and I thought it was perfect cheesy vaporwave chords.

Then I took a drum break from a 20 year old sample set, and loaded it in confusing sampler. And added a simplistic bass.

I didn’t ask permission before using any of the samples. Total pirate action.

What an honour! Sounds awesome @chaircrusher. What vid of mine did you use? Didn’t recognise it with the time stretch and all the other fun stuff. Also, I’ll DM you soon to discuss secret Rack business

This is really interesting. I like it. Good job!

It feels as though I have a time of it incorporating new modules into my patches. I tried some 4MS things in the patch, in particular the ENVCA in LFO mode.

The real MVP is the JW-Modules AbcdSeq, which gives you an easy path to insane variations, that still add up. It always sounds musical (for some values of “musical”) and you can be as deterministic or random as you like. I like somewhere in between, so it’s like Joe Zawinul vamping on a part but throwing in variations.

And man that Vult Knock Bass Drum is just immense. I don’t know what @modlfo did but when you use Extreme Mode one of the side effects is some subtle low-mid fuzz that helps emphasize the sine tone during the decay phase.

Like serious club-rattling kick. When I mastered it I actually cut the low bass a bit.

Also some of what I think of as VST cheating, using AudioThingOuter Space 2.

I dunno but I suspect a driven resonant filter is at play in that Knock extreme fury. ABCD is an instant favorite. I hope to get some time where I learn to modulate the length of each row as well. JW is back on top of the pile!! I’m cuckoo for the 4ms package, I would rank it alongside the best of VCV. Your explorations have been an inspiration to me, love to see what you may patch.

I always upload my patches. I’m sure I have plugins and VSTs others do not, but enough should be there for people to try stuff.
