I suppose this reply was meant for somebody else maybe?
But yes true. As others haev pointed out, if the sub bass/fundamental is not present then no amount of boost will fix it. In other environments I might also suggest a suboctave-fx kind of thing (Melda Mbassador is my fave). But in VCV I’d just use a Sine VCO.
…and remember kids, no detuned unisons or chorus fx on your subs! 
(If you want the mix to work well on a live system that is. If you don’t care then do whatever you want.)
